Characterizations of Trapezoids

چکیده
We review eight and prove an additional 13 necessary and sufficient conditions for a convex quadrilateral to be a trapezoid. One aim for this paper is to show that many of the known properties of trapezoids are in fact characterizations.

Polygonal Decomposition into Singular and Regular Regions
This paper deenes a polygonal decomposition into regular and singular regions, a concept that is useful for skeleton extraction and part analysis. A preference relation is deened among symmetrical trapezoids contained in the polygon, so that a trapezoid can be preferred to other trapezoids. A set of most preferred trapezoids is used to deene regular regions. Regular regions correspond to the on...
متن کاملThe Isosceles Trapezoid and its Dissecting Similar Triangles
Isosceles trapezoids are dissected into three similar triangles and rearranged to form two additional isosceles trapezoids. Moreover, triangle centers, one from each similar triangle, form the vertices of a centric triangle which has special properties. For example, the centroidal triangles are congruent to each other and have an area one-ninth of the area of the trapezoids; whereas, the circum...
متن کاملConstant Term Formulas for Refined Enumerations of Gog and Magog Trapezoids
Gog and Magog trapezoids are certain arrays of positive integers that generalize alternating sign matrices (ASMs) and totally symmetric self-complementary plane partitions (TSSCPPs) respectively. Zeilberger used constant term formulas to prove that there is the same number of (n, k)-Gog trapezoids as there is of (n, k)-Magog trapezoids, thereby providing so far the only proof for a weak version...
متن کاملTrapezoids and Double Truncations in the Epigra Vettian Assemblages of Northeastern Italy
Trapezoids represent a significant category of tools among the innovative geometric implements in the lithic assemblages of European late glacial complexes, particularly those late Epigravettian industries from the Mediterranean region to the southern Ukrainian plain. The recen t recovery of several artifacts from two excavlllions in the Venetian Pre-Alps (northern Italy) prompted a large-scale...
متن کاملGog, Magog and Schützenberger II: left trapezoids
We are interested in finding an explicit bijection between two families of combinatorial objects: Gog and Magog triangles. These two families are particular classes of Gelfand-Tsetlin triangles and are respectively in bijection with alternating sign matrices (ASM) and totally symmetric self complementary plane partitions (TSSCPP). For this purpose, we introduce left Gog and GOGAm trapezoids. We...
